Review from 76561198031889593Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel ( & the Whole Series) is Amazing. Cold Steel one plays like a persona game to an extent. Standout Feature: The World building is Top Notch! Turn based combat dungeon crawler / life sim. a ton of content, Long story, good combat, great world building, great characters, amazing lore, great soundtrack. The game is awesome, and i thoroughly enjoyed every minute... Score: 9/10 I highly recommend you try this series out.

Review from 76561199242515439great game
Review from 76561198258106868I felt the game was longer than trails to azure. Anyways, it was a good game but the separation of arts and quartz for stats was a pain. There were a lot of WTF moments that makes me keep coming back to Trails. I am going to take a break before starting Cold Steel 2. Also, the events of Crossbell isn't mentioned so it's a good place to start if it's you just going to the Trails series.
Review from 76561198149933942A 10/10 game. Excellent characters, voice acting, world building, and story telling (slow burning story telling for the first 3/4 of the game, but you're never bored due to the interesting locations and character interactions, and it all comes together nicely at the end. It does end on a cliff-hanger though, so you'll need to buy and play the second game
Review from 76561198939774909i really, really, do not like this one but i do think the finale is better than Azure and i have to remember that all that happened in this game was merely to set up a better story in the future as is all first trails titles.

Review from 76561198088922553Fantastic story with a lot of world building!
Review from 76561198082962870It's a very slow paced game similar to Sky FC but I think the experience was pretty enjoyable overall, Class VII definitely grew on me overtime but the Cold Steel series expects you to take your time and absorb the setting and it's characters.

Review from 76561199170929376Solid 8\10, maybe weakest game in series

Review from 76561198099620752The third best game in a 4 game saga. Doesn't mean it's bad in any shape or form. It's a slow burn introduction to the Trails series - the third intro point to be exact and it works well enough I guess if you want 3d graphics instead of sprites like in Sky and Zero/Ao. This was my third playthrough and it was still fun although knowing what happens next and already knowing everything there is to know about all the characters, a lot of the charm is simply lost upon replaying these games. Still, no other JRPG or game series comes close to builindg such an attachment to its world and people like this saga spanning soon to be 13 games manages to do. There's just nothing like it, not even close.
Review from 76561198197886497Yeah um this game is good you should play it
Review from 76561198346980676Enjoyed it much more than the previous 2 trails games but you also have to be someone who finds old anime tropes funny and entertaining. If you find them cringe and cannot stand it, especially tsundere heroines, probably not the game for you. That said it does continue the Trails/Kiseki storyline so if you're invested you just gotta play it. As usual though, I have to mod my game because I just cannot stand the grid battle system in all of the Trails games.

Review from 76561198112201317Game play and story was good. There seemed to be a nice place to land the story at the end, but then they continued with another plot point to set up the second game. It leaves you feeling like you didn't just beat the game. Other than that it was good.
Review from 76561199064534191great gamenit is I love the trails of series
Review from 76561198043218182Fantastic series. Even the older games are still good, even if the graphic is so outdated. Recommend.

Review from 76561199084951371It's your average jrpg with good but slow storytelling and nice battle mechanics, i love the battle but not how storytelling in the game plays out slowly, dialogues are kinda plain but this is an old game, still worth it i think
Review from 76561198366691338Its great so far!

Review from 76561198256804505This was my first ever Trails game, I loved every second of it back on PS4, I then moved to PC and when this was on sale I picked it up cause I wanted to replay the series and I still love and recommend it, however if you intend to play this after work now and again it may feel like it is taking a while to complete so keep that in mind if you are planning on buying it
Review from 76561198278664204Not as good as sky or zero but its still good
Review from 76561198003018764This continues the saga and is connected to whats been going on since the Trails in the Sky trilogy. As i'm sure its been said, you must play the other story arcs first(liberl/crossbell) to understand the plot and get full enjoyment. If not, then its going to be a disjointed and slow story that'll leave you confused.

Review from 76561198312155233Was and still Is a very good game, the story was pleasant and combat was pleasant but it gives you no warning about how hard some boss fights can be where you can get killed by a singular hit from an enemy without and prior warning about the difficulty. 7/10 Would replay on nightmare.

Review from 76561198050353643Comparing this to other first entries, I wasn't invested until very late into the game. Elevated by playing Crossbell first. Keen to see where this arc goes. Also the first game I've finished on Steam Deck!
Review from 76561198108693479man I love trails
Moeagare Moeagare Moeaagre GANDAMU!
Review from 76561197996022698Had fun with it. Played a couple of hours of it, and i enjoy these types of games (played for story on easiest setting first playthrough, hardest on second, finished on easiest). Things i would recommend for anyone wanting to play this game: 1.FOLLOW A GUIDE. There are tons of secrets/quests that can be missed. There are nonspoiler guides as well if you want to play for the difficulty (I wouldnt recommend starting on the hardest or you will get stuck at a couple of bosses). 2. Keep in mind that this game is setup for the next game. 3. This is an older gen game, so its plot and such is more reminiscent of jrpgs around that time (released 2013). Its design (layout and fights) kinda reminds me of persona. If you do not mind a casual story with some tedious quests, then you should be able to enjoy the game. If you are looking for an extreme QUADRUPLE A GAME (or even triple A at this time) you will be extremely disappointed. Keep in mind, you can speed up cutscenes if you are on your second or so playthrough. If you are speeding through on your very first playthrough, you probably dont enjoy the game... which i would recommend quitting at that point.
Review from 76561198966100856A slow burn, but a good one
Review from 76561198042871561It's a classic for a reason. If you like JRPGs but don't wanna deal with the complicated relationship systems of Persona, strongly recommend giving Trails a try.
Review from 76561199511399125Disclaimer: Played it offline on my Steam Deck, so it says I've only played it a couple of hours despite the fact that I actually played it for a few dozen hours and finished it. I think this one is the one I liked least so far in the series, partly because the main character Rean is basically Lloyd from the previous game except younger and less interesting but with even more women of all ages who fawn over him for no reason except that he's the protagonist, partly because it took me a while to get used to the more modern visuals and mechanics in the game in comparison to the previous five games, and partly becase pretty much everything that I loved from this game was heavily dependent on having played the previous games and how they connected to this one as far as game mechanics, setting and plot points are concerned. I especially enjoyed seeing the whole political mess they'd previously addressed from Liberl's p.o.v. in the Sky gamess and from Crossbell's p.o.v. in the next two games, but now from Erebonia's standpoint, especially the average citizen instead of Prince Olivert or Chancellor Osborne or their close associates. Don't get me wrong, I still liked it and enjoyed it a lot and I'd recommend it, it just didn't grab me as much as the Sky and Crossbell games. I HATED that the turbo button skips animations instead of just speeding everything like previous games, and that it went back to having to keep it pressed like in the Sky games instead of just activating the function like in the Crossbell games. It reminded me of the very first Sky game in the series in that it was mostly set-up for the story, setting and characters, with a plot twist at the end that detonates the next game's narrative. I guess, just like Sky FC and SC, this one and Cold Steel II are more like a huge game split in half.

Review from 76561198018403499Very classic style RPG. Side content is relatively straight forward though I would recommend a guide to not miss anything. 100% requires multiple playthroughs but I don't concern myself with that. Saving grace of this game is the turbo feature which allows you to boost field movement and actions as well as battles. Turned an 80 hour game into a 40 hour game which respected my time. Story is interesting as it unveils the larger background story and world as you play. Characters grow as people and as friends which is sort of the core of the story. Chapters switch up who you have in your party so you can play around with different members and party formations. I certainly have my favorites but never felt too annoyed by who they forced me to bring and it kept me from getting locked into a single party. Late game boss battles are a bit ridiculous compared to earlier fights in terms of difficulty. I never found myself using the retry feature until the last few bosses playing on normal mode. If you are looking for the challenge it is certainly present if you want it to be with higher difficulties but also just enjoyable played normally. Anyways reminded me of 90s style and early 00s RPGs with some modern conveniences thrown in.
Review from 76561198088209673Okaaaay so trails of cold steel, I've come from this not super long after the trails in the sky trilogy and it's been an interesting start to part 1 of 4 of these games, the short of it is this game has an interesting story, world and culture to it with some massive gameplay improvements compared to the prior games, although I don't find all of the cast quite as lovable as the trails in the sky series they eventually grew on me mostly and became a cast I look forward to seeing more of, all in all a great game dood! Okay onto the more detailed section of my review, Trails of cold steel takes place in a military academy, which basically functions as a normal school just with war time history, strategies and combat training involved, the game focuses on Rean, a rather plain yet polite enough seeming young man, which may seem boring to some at first but these series have a high precedence on character growth and world building and with four whole games? They definitely need to take it somewhat slow in their pacing dood. Combat is the usual affair for these style of games, you have a battlefield and based on your speed along with what attacks you decide to use you have a wait time before you can act again, the action icons on the side as usual have symbols which have various effects if you or the enemy land on it such as health recovery or guaranteed critical hits, you get normal attacks, arts or crafts to attack with but more than that the game sets up new combat mechanics with link attacks, the name is self explanatory so I'll leave it at that but suffice to say they expand on it nicely and between magic, skills and ultimate attacks, combat becomes quite interesting and fun dood. The world has a lot of different places, unlike the original games where the in between's existed, you end up travelling a certain way and for good reason, rather than travelling on foot as you would in prior games, each place having it's own culture, citizens and even events along with moments to learn about your classmates, whatever you do will be graded and in fact much like the other games you have secret missions too, all of which reward you for achieving so many points for your grades making sidequests feel legitimately worth the effort dood. Money is handled better in this one too, back in prior games, before you traded sepith which was what you needed in a variety of colours to make quartz of which is what let's you use magic or boosts your character up so as you can imagine that was inconvenient but here you have sepith mass, this is useless so can just be straight up sold for money, one might think why not just have money drops but the game also gives you the option to sell your normal sepith too to boost your war funds dood. The final thing I wanna talk about is the addition of master quartz, this is such a game changer of a thing, each character gets one and you can in fact find more as well as change them around per player, these give a substantial boost to stats and essentially can determine how you play the game and who plays how, want protag to be a spell caster? Use another master quartz with high artes damage! and even then there's more to it than that, they give various spells, special effects in battle ranging from starting with buffs to recovering health or EP (magic points) and much more allowing for a variety of combat situations, it's a great addition and idea to add to the series dood. So that's it really, I'm not into school settings, military or otherwise but I can't say I didn't have a blast with this game and look forward to playing the next one greatly, hopefully this review helps you choose whether to buy or not and if you do? I hope you have as many good times as I did! Thanks for reading dood.
Review from 76561198071660347C'hea that was a good time, a bit long, with the least immediately appealing ost and longest run time, due mostly to how many instances of npc dialogue updates there are in this game. Maybe Crosbell spoiled me, maybe I'm playing these games in too quickly back to back, well anyways gotta get to CS2!

Review from 76561197970463641
Trails of Cold Steele Review
1)english 2)Deutsch 3)日本語
After the brilliant start of Trails in the Sky and its trilogy, i wanted to delve further into the deep atmospheric world of the Zemuria continent. Falcom manages to combine storytelling with a great atmosphere like almost no one else.
It took me about 113 hours. I played with the Steam Deck 80% of the time and 20% on the PC - a revelation :-) Definitely buy and play, my ranking so far (I will Zemurian Time Periodically the games play through Trails in the Sky 1-2-3-CS1-CS2-Zero-Azure-CS3-CS4-etc^^) Sky SC >> Sky 3rd > CS1 > FC Gameplay 08/10 I would say Persona meets FF8 and is still its own creation :-) Thanks to the ARCUS system the fight is now different, for me the crafts were used 90%, Arts very rare. Admittedly, the menu navigation wasn't well thought out for me. The process always followed the same pattern (except for the final chapter), which, however, did not harm the gameplay. On the contrary, Erebonia continued to live with life and you felt like you were at home :-) Atmosphere 07/10 Graphics were good and sufficient. The atmosphere was still conveyed well, and at times I enjoyed the view. The views on the Highlands and Lake Legram was great. However, I have to admit that I liked Liberl more overall. Story 09/10 Peace fits, Rean and Konsortium are all great companions and invite you to explore Erebonia. Sound 08/10 Unfortunately only the last place in the Trails series, I'm more used to that. The last dungeon has an incredibly good soundtrack, I remember it otherwise the Trails in the Sky series is a lot better in terms of music. Content 09/10 No JRPG without fishing! 7 chapters, with lots of dialogues, a card game that unfortunately can only be played during certain passages. Little variety is made up for by a lot of text. Summary: A great game with lengthy phases yet successful peace. The only argument against it is the pioneering trilogy that left a really big impression (Sky 2 is in my top 5 JRPGs!) Buy the game! It's a great series and a great introduction to the Erebonia arc! Review Score: 08/10
Summary: Ein Super Spiel mit langatmigen Phasen dennoch gelungenem Peace.
Review from 76561198071760944A game, even if it's part of a larger series, must rise or fall on its own merits. The first entry of the Cold Steel series rises to the Sky. Characters A solid cast, with a few standouts. We only get the first part of their stories in this entry, but every character had their moments--even ones I initially disliked or found uninteresting. I connected with Rean in particular, who was a pleasure to play, and I'm fascinated to see how his character progresses. The high school class is a trope for a reason, and this incarnation of it is one of the best examples of the trope done right. Story I loved exploring Erebonia, meeting its people and seeing its terribly flawed beauty. I found myself grappling with my initial impressions and assumptions about the Empire from the other games. It made me think about the classic 'lesser of two evils' moral dilemma in a new light. The high school part of the story was also a pleasure; both the campus, its town, and all the students and townsfolk had a nostalgic, homely quality to them. I predicted some twists, but was pleasantly caught off-guard by others--not an easy feat. Misc The details in this game amaze me. Little things, like a chair being moved to a window so a child could stand on it and look out, little unique reactions each character has to a line of cheesy dialogue. To an extent, this series has always been known for its attention to detail--most npcs have their own little stories you can see if you talk them after each story event--but it stuck out to me in this game especially. Conclusion I recommend playing the previous games in the series first: Trails in the Sky trilogy, then the Crossbell Arc. But I can't imagine anyone having a bad time with this game even without that context. I hope that the next entries in the Cold Steel series can match the standard they set in the first.
Review from 76561198441465847Cold Steel 1 isn't a bad game, but it is a rough one. The gameplay and combat have been simplified in ways that noticeably reduced the skill ceiling and the potential for interesting and creative team building. The visuals are awkward with the series' first foray into 3D. And the story, while it does have some interesting plot beats, goes on for longer than needed and is way too heavy on setting up future games at the expense of providing a satisfying experience here and now. But its not all bad. The way the game handles its changes to party composition are a step up from the Sky games and its characters, while a mixed bag, have enough bright spots that I'm pretty positives on the game in that respect. They get enough texture to their personalities to shed the anime archetypes they start out as and actually feel like well-rounded individuals with a life that doesn't revolve around being the main character's friend/love interest. If you're interested in the Trails series, I'd still recommend starting with Sky. Cold Steel is not a great introduction to the series despite its attempts to make the experience smoother for newcomers. And while I can still see somebody playing this and still deciding to continue with the other games, its a much more awkward foundation compared to previous entry points. And for those who have already played the other Trails games, Cold Steel 1 is still decent enough to be worth getting through.
Review from 76561198052373935I am currently up to the 6th Trails title in my Trails/Kiseki gaming journey, and Cold Steel I is the first game that transitions to full 3D models unlike the past games which had cute little sprites. I must admit after having played the past games before this, it took a whole chapter for me to get used to the movement and lack of QoL, as I have been playing the official localized versions for which Trails to Azure, which was localized in the west in 2023, felt like it had better QoL vs Cold Steel I that was localized for the west in 2015. Firstly, I want to mention that playing this game really felt like watching an anime, as up until the end of the game (Holy FUCK btw), it really felt like watching one big anime season. It follows a school setting, you do school things, and this is basically the gameplay loop throughout the entirety of the game with the plot points slowly unfolding. As a big weeb, this is a huge ass W, but for those who hate anime tropes, this game has quite a few of that, and it might turn off some folks. Coming from the past games, the gameplay more or less plays the same, with a few additions such as Brave Points added into the mix. I felt like this feature was very important, and I felt like I couldn’t even beat normal encounters at the start of the game without abusing this early on, so it’ll become routine. The way quartz work and how arts are provided to you has also changed, though I am still not sure how I feel about it. On one side I do miss the creativity with the quartz lines and element mixing to have certain art lists, and on another side I like that Cold Steel I removed a lot of rules and text bloat that came with that system. It felt more simplified of a system with expanded quartz option variety while keeping the same “ARCUS” system introduced in Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure. The perspective of battles in 3D did throw me off for a bit like the 3D movement, but nothing was overly complicated or changed much that would confuse a new or veteran player of the Trails series. You get used to it quickly. After playing this game, there is always more soundtracks I add to my playlist. I feel like with each Trails game I finish, my playlist becomes more expanded, particularly my workout playlist. “Tie a Link of ARCUS!”, “Exceed”, “The Decisive Collision” and “I Miss You” are some of my notable favourites. If soundtracks elevate your gaming experience and you don’t consider them spoilers, I recommend you give it a listen! For the plot, I thought this game’s plot points were satisfying enough for the start of an arc, and there are certain unique character identities we were made aware of in the past games if you have been following along closely (Trails from Zero/to Azure specifically) that are finally made clear in this game. I personally felt that being aware of these events and cameo appearances made up good part of my satisfaction in Cold Steel I. However, my BIGGEST satisfaction was the build-up to the end. It was absolutely INSANE. In fact, I think I am crazy for not immediately starting Cold Steel II after finishing this game. That was such an anime ass ending and I absolutely love it. I can't imagine the fan's reactions when they played this on release. What a tease! With that said, I am very much looking forward to Cold Steel II. With the amount of banger games coming out in early 2024, it had to take the bench for a bit, and I honestly still think I am crazy for not starting it immediately. I can however say, without a doubt, that the events in this game will definitely be fresh in my mind for months and years to come.

Review from 76561199630168180Even though I started to gain interest in the Series from Cold Steel 3 and on this games still holds up to this day , the characters are interesting and I like their dynamic . The combat even though it feels like an older version of ToCS 3 and on is still amazing.

Review from 76561198143442857This is where my first ever Trails adventure began back on PS3 and it has been nothing short of pure bliss since then. I feel sorry for those missing out on these master piece's.
Review from 76561198396839072Characters in this game are bland and stereotypical. Rean is a worse protagonist compared to Estelle, Kevin and Lloyd. The true final battle is very luck based at nightmare difficulty if you are at low level (62). Status ailments and delay mechanics are luck based compared to Zero and Azure. Overall Trails of Cold Steel is a great game with great soundtrack but the story is undeniably worse than Sky and Crossbell.
Review from 76561198156134672Good game with very good story. Can be entry point to Trails serie, it was my first Trails game and now I have all of them.
Review from 76561198049266537Great game of a great series. It's a classic JRPG that you can take your time with, or burn through parts using the "Turbo" button. A refreshing choice in the current age FOMO in games nearly everywhere else. Almost feels like reading a good book.

Review from 76561197984377521Another amazing entry, onwards to part 2!
Review from 76561198030641584The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel лучшая точка входа в серию игр The Legend of Heroes. Trails of Cold Steel Review from 76561198422181749The final chapter was so GOOD, I loved all the twists and turns... but the ten thousand hours until I reached said final chapter were mostly a chore... god, so much to read. Also, Im tired of the good hearted- best at what they do - gorgeous - but oh so humble - characters and their habit to deflect any praise that comes at them. These games are so full of them. Overall I enjoyed it midly, I don't think I would have if I didn't play Sky and Crosbell before, Also, I wanted to dance with Machias, not just talk. Fuck.
Review from 76561198152578467The perfect continuation of the tale of Zumeria! I have played it on PS4/5 and still get a enjoyable XP every time. A must have and play for any JRPG nerd!

Review from 76561198307412330The worst part about the Trails series, including this entry, is that it continues to hook me to the point where my backlog continues to spiral out of control. Pros: Amazing combat Wonderful characters Excellent world building Fantastic music Cons: Side quests can be fairly boring The game is a slow burn Plot may be hard for beginners to follow fully, especially if you haven't played previous entries such as Trails From Zero and Trails to Azure If hooked, say goodbye to other games on your backlog

Review from 76561198145154661despite me recommending it i do wanna mention this game is not at the level of the previous trails games lol PLEASE START THERE instead. the story in this one is okay it feels like 90% worldbuilding then u got actual story sprinkled in briefly. gameplay imo is a step down i think as it is in this game id have probably preferred the top down gameplay and the quartz rework is cool for phys attackers but makes casting spells not as fun without the giant list and kinda limits them a lot. characters themselves are chill i liked most of them just fine and would laugh at a good amount of moments idk if i was intended to laugh at them though. the game has QOL over the sky games as its a newer one, with the biggest one being QUEST MARKERS MAN why did it take the sixth game to add these to the map. it is missing some QOL zero and azure had like a toggle for turbo mode etc but its not too major or anything. Overall an alright game, probably a 7/10 to me. As its pretty far removed from sky's and (kinda) crossbell's stories this is def a possible starting point but as i said at the top i wouldnt recommend doing that. I don't know if I wouldve been hooked on the series if i started here instead of sky.
Review from 76561199244220839Apart from the performance issues this is a pretty great game with a great story and great cast. After completing the story I’ve never whiped out my wallet fast enough just to find out what happens next. It seems no matter the story Falcom just puts up peak fiction

Review from 76561198268837026This was my first Trails game, and it really didn't disappoint! I fell in love with the setting of Erebonia, and the story of Class VII kept me engaged throughout my playthrough.
